How I Trained ChatGPT to Write Like Me

Hi Reader,

I’ve worked with hundreds of writers over the years.

I worked with writers when I was a journalist in a busy newsroom.

As a content strategist in the corporate world, I managed a team of writers.

And I've hired many writers for this website over the years.

Working with writers is a great way to grow a brand or writing business.

The problem?

Not everyone can afford to hire someone.

So what should you do if you want the help of a writer... but funds are tight?

Enter ChatGPT.

You're going to create a custom GPT... to write like you.

To do it, you'll need a ChatGPT premium account.

That costs $20... and it's cheaper than hiring someone.

  • Click on "Explore GPTs" and then "Create"
  • Click Configure
  • Give your custom GPT a name.
  • Write a one-line description about what it does
  • Upload an image or ask ChatGPT to create one.
  • In the instructions, use this prompt:

(For this tutorial, I'll focus on writing for LinkedIn, but feel free to swap out that part of the prompt).

“ Hey ChatGPT! you are a professional editor and expert content creator. You are known for writing engaging LinkedIn content and are never generic. You will memorize my writing style by analyzing three of my articles. You’ll use your analysis to inform any outputs you generate, so they’re in my style. I’ll paste them below.
Then, I'll give you a topic, and you'll produce 3 LinkedIn posts on this topic that match the supplied posts' tone, style, and structure.”
  • Paste three to four of your best LinkedIn posts below that prompt.
  • Or upload them as attachments.
  • Add a conversation starter that explains how to prompt ChatGPT
  • Test and save!

ChatGPT will train itself to write a post... in your style.

All you have to do is enter the topic.

You can use this custom GPT to write first drafts of your posts.

You might need to update the GPT instructions if it starts inserting emojis or veers away from what you need.

But a custom GPT like this will save you hours writing first drafts.

I created this GPT using those instructions.

Feel free to try it

You can email me if you've questions about this mini tutorial.

I'd love to hear, as I plan on creating a bunch of GPTs like this one.

Write on,

Bryan
