The hidden weapon in my copywriting arsenal
|
Hi Reader, I’m a collector. Over the years, I’ve collected comic books, rare coins, old books, printables, audio speakers, digital artworks, marathon training shoes, and copywriting frameworks. I don’t keep all my collections. I binned my tattered, yellow comic book collection and gave away my moldy rare coins years ago. I sold my old speakers and donated my running shoes. I only hold onto valuable collections I either use regularly or enjoy. Balancing collecting and minimalism is always challenging! After parting with my rare coins and comics, I spent a few years taking copywriting courses and working with clients. While honing my “write words that sell” chops, I collected copywriting frameworks for headlines, sales hooks, and bullets. I took them from books, courses, sales pages, and marketing campaigns. I stuffed them all into a digital swipe file because I’ve a mortal fear of the flashing cursor and an unreasonable client deadline. My copywriting swipe file saved me hours when I worked as an in-house copywriter for a SaaS company. I still use my swipe file to write sales pages for my business. One Friday morning, a client asked me to turn around some sales copy for a deadline. And he needed it that afternoon. Charming. I waded through my swipe file of copywriting frameworks. I pulled out a proven framework and worked it into my copy. The client signed off on the copy. He likened my writing process to “voodoo magic.” (I’d the same response after watching a developer fix a broken app by writing a few lines of code in several minutes.) You see… Understand copywriting, and you gain a huge advantage over most writers, marketers, and business owners. They’re stuck with bland vanilla outputs from ChatGPT that most won’t read, let alone act on. YOU can write words that sell. Take the humble copywriting bullet. A good copywriting bullet is powerful enough to sell a product or service by itself. They’re also a great way of making a sales page pop. Picking product features and turning them into bullets is a great way of honing your copywriting skills. Here are a few examples:
See if you can spot a few frameworks in that list and turn them into bullets for your current project. If you enjoy that, I recommend copywriting as a great way for Pro Writers who want to earn a good living. I’d like to invite you to a Pro Writers Only workshop next week on this topic.
