Not every one has a book inside of them

Hi Reader

I’ve written and published 7 books over the years.

I even quit a profitable corporate job to write a parenting memoir.

A few flopped.

One was a USA Today best-seller.

I’ve also interviewed dozens of New York Times best-selling business authors for my podcast.

Here’s the truth:

Writing a business book is a great way to build your author brand.

But…

Don’t believe the cliché of everyone having a great book inside of them.

Books aren’t for everyone.

They’re hard work.

They take time to pay off.

And they don’t always work.

But when they do…

They’re a HUGE asset.

On the other hand:

That thread you wrote for X or LinkedIn, which went viral?

Congrats.

Unfortunately, most people won’t remember it in a few days.

Social media posts expire fast.

A book, on the other hand?

That’s a valuable long-term asset for your personal brand.

You can use it for speaking gigs, podcast interviews, and building social proof.

Still want to write one?

Great.

Here’s what you must know.

Invest heavily in your book.

Don’t expect to knock a book draft out in 30 days, bang it into a grammar checker, whip up a Canva cover…

And expect a great product.

Pro book authors?

They budget thousands for a book editor, designer, and a proofreader.

If you’re going to take the time to write a book, you should, too.

You might not earn this money back directly (see below)…

But down the road?

You’ll feel glad about spending extra time and money on something next to your name.

Don’t expect a big payday from one book.

Forget getting rich writing books too..

Unless your name is James Clear, Mark Manson, or your book is the airport….

Sure, I met a few authors living off their backlist.

But they’ve spent years writing books and have a huge audience.

And many of them still found it hard earlier in their career.

Every profitable author that I interviewed?

Their real profits come from a backend.

Sponsorship.

A course.

A coaching program.

A public speaking gig.

Think of that book as a business card that introduces readers to your writing business.
