Famous writers I met
|
Hi Reader, I had a call with a coaching client last week. She needed help editing her work. At the end of the call, she said, “It was fun meeting a writer from Ireland.” That got me thinking about all the writers from Ireland I’ve met… and how small this country is. I live an hour outside Dublin, and I’ve met or interviewed a few famous Irish writers over the years. It didn’t take much effort on my part either. I simply went along to a few writing workshops and book signings. I met writers like: John Banville, aka Benjamin Black. Roddy Doyle. Colm Tóibín. Claire Keegan. Anne Enright. John Boyne. Paul Lynch. Most Irish writers I met don’t care much for writing online. All of the above write literary fiction. I tried writing literary fiction a few years ago. Then, I sold my soul and broke into copywriting ;) I’ve also interviewed dozens of international writers for my podcast. Names like James Clear and Daniel Pink. I asked each of these writers for a writing tip. I was looking for one big tip that would change everything. But their answers were variations on a single theme: doing the work. Some think Irish writers in Ireland hang around bars drinking Guinness, eating potatoes, and bashing out lines of navel-gazing poetry. But doing the work never changes. It doesn’t matter what you write or what country you’re from. You could be writing a blog post. You could be writing online to build your brand. You could be outlining a book. You could be creating content or copywriting for a client. You could even be writing a newsletter like this one. Whatever the niche, industry, or project, work like a professional. A Pro Writer turns up in front of their computer or the blank page every workday. They don’t wait until inspiration or the muse taps them on the shoulder. They work even if they don’t feel like it. They get the words out and hit their daily word count quota or deadline. They know writing for a living isn’t always easy or fun, but it’s worthwhile. They don’t try and fake the work with an AI content spinner, a generic template, or a cheap bot. They press submit or publish early and often. And they get paid what they’re worth. If you need help writing online, I’m running a Pro Writers Only workshop in a few days. I’ll show you how to create a month of content in 90 minutes. Write on, Bryan Collins |
