The 4-Minute, 33-Second Song That Changed My Business
|
Hi Reader, John Cage is one of my favorite musicians. He’s a minimalist. One of his most famous tracks? 4'33 You won’t believe what that track sounds like. Go ahead and listen to it on Spotify. I’ll wait… It’s four minutes and thirty-three seconds of… silence. Cage was a master of creative minimalism. I think about Cage’s track when I’m stuck with a problem in my business. I ask myself how I can try creative minimalism, too. No, I’m not describing wearing black Ts and eating tuna salad for lunch to eke out a few extra hours. Ideally, I try do a few simple things every day. And I stick to my list for weeks or months until I see results! Here’s what it could look like for you: Create one piece of content every day. You could write a short email like this and turn it into a social media post. Connect with a few of your ideal clients every day on social media. I’m focused on LinkedIn these days. And I don’t care much about going viral. Do one thing every day that grows your email list. You could set up a Facebook ad or add a call-to-action to your social media posts. Make one offer every day to your ideal clients. Present that via email or direct message. Pro creators can do these things in an hour or two a day, which is more than enough time to build a brand, attract the right clients, and grow a business. The trick is doing less but better. Because you can do a LOT more. But should you? A creative minimalist knows what to leave out, too. If you want to read more about creative minimalism, pick up a copy of my book The Power of Creativity. Write on, PS If you need some accountability, reply with the word “MINIMALISM”.
