The Substack growth hack I'm not supposed to share

Writing a Substack daily note is a powerful way of growing an email list organically. They’re like tweets but with a much longer shelf life. Each one also acts like a mini lead magnet.

Substack is promoting notes in their algorithm right now, giving early adopters of this strategy a significant advantage before the space becomes saturated.

Last month, I spent 5 minutes writing a Substack note that went viral - attracting over 1,000 likes, shares, and comments. It brought in hundreds of new subscribers to my list, outperforming some of my older lead magnets.

Some Substack writers publish 5–10 short, punchy notes daily that consistently rack up thousands of shares. I’d wager their lists are growing nicely, too.

Most Substack notes fail because they’re either too safe, too complex, or missing key emotional triggers. The most successful notes follow specific patterns that you can replicate.

I’ve discovered several powerful patterns that drive engagement for popular Substack notes. This month, I wanted to write more notes, so I turned these patterns into a Claude Project. It helps me take ideas from my daily newsletter and rework them as Substack notes. Here’s how it works.

1) Extract key ideas from existing content
2) Run them through the Claude pattern matcher
3) Add your voice to the output
4) Post several times a day

If you want to use this Claude project, you’ll love my upcoming workshop.

I’ll show you how to validate and create high-converting lead magnets and build your list with AI. And yes, I’ll cover Substack and give you the exact prompt and patterns for growing your list organically.

This live workshop is on Wednesday, 19th March at 15:30 GMT / 10:30 EST. It’s for ticket holders only, but I will send you a recording if you can’t make it.
