Hi Reader,

A writer messaged me the other day on LinkedIn.

She was feeling frustrated and wanted help.

She asked me to review her LinkedIn posts.

She couldn’t understand why people weren’t commenting and sharing her posts.

She was a busy exec who knew what she was writing about.

Her content was good, but…

I could see the problem right away.

The writer used big words, lengthy sentences, and paragraphs.

Her last post read like a literary novel.

She also didn’t have a great first line or hook.

And the post image had nothing to do with the post itself.

I offered some constructive feedback. I gave her a list of hooks, too.

She used this editorial feedback to improve her content.

So what did I tell her?

If you’re writing for the web, write more like James Patterson and less like Ernest Hemingway.

Use everyday language.

Keep your paragraphs short.

Add a line break early and often.

And sweat the first line. Use a great hook.

Write on,
Bryan Collins

Hi Reader, I worked with Matt McWilliams a few years ago. I even interviewed him for my podcast. He’s created a confidential playbook for running massive product and book launches. He uses this confidential playbook to 10X the sales for affiliate programs in every conceivable niche for companies small and large (like Shutterfly and Adidas)....

A man taking a picture of himself with a camera

Hi Reader, Yesterday, I told you about my golden rules for affiliate marketing. In case you missed it: Promote products and services only if you use or trust it. Promote a product or service only if it adds value to your audience. Here’s an example: I wanted to overhaul my social media profiles earlier this year. I was rocking out with a headshot of me 8 years ago when I had more hair and fewer wrinkles! My pic wasn’t disingenuous, but I felt like a Tindr guy who turns up in real life and...
