Make art in the morning, make money in the afternoons

Hi Reader

David Mamet changed how I think about creating and running an online business.

He’s spent a lifetime writing plays, films, and books, but his insights translate nearly to the creator economy.

He offers two rules for success:

“You’ve got to do one thing for your art every day, and you’ve got to do one thing for your business every day.”

Perhaps you want to earn a living from writing or creating?

Or you’re busy running a business and you need content to grow it faster?

Tomorrow, instead of checking X notifications or doom-scrolling the news after coffee…

Do one thing for your craft.

Create first.

Work on your big idea for 30/60/90 minutes.

Hit your word count.

Record your video.

Schedule your content for the week.

Work on your product.

Now, writing and recording is fun, but you’re not doing this as a hobby.

All that content won’t pay the bills, at least not directly.

You can’t rely on likes and shares alone to fill your bank account.

(Trust me, I’ve kicked the tires on every partner program out there.)

Do something for your business in the afternoon.

Enter the type of work that generates an ROI:

Work like building your list, crafting an offer, or serving a client.

You see:

If you create and sell consistently, you’ll have a backlog of content for growing your business.

You’ll dramatically improve your content creation and sales skills.

And you’ll have reliable clients to work with.

A creator can become a rare commodity if they combine two or more skills in a way no one else offers.

Thanks to Mamet, I realized that the most successful creators aren’t just artists. They’re entrepreneurs, too.

So, I spend my mornings writing emails like this one or scripting my content for my socials.

I spend my afternoons working on my core offer or helping my clients.

These are ideas I write about in The Power of Creativity.

Hi Reader, I worked with Matt McWilliams a few years ago. I even interviewed him for my podcast. He’s the guy successful entrepreneurs like Michael Hyatt, Ray Edwards, Jeff Goins, Lewis Howes, and Brian Tracy call to manage their affiliate programs. He’s created a confidential playbook for running massive product and book launches. He uses this confidential playbook to 10X the sales for affiliate programs in every conceivable niche for companies small and large (like Shutterfly and Adidas)....

A man taking a picture of himself with a camera

Hi Reader, Yesterday, I told you about my golden rules for affiliate marketing. In case you missed it: Promote products and services only if you use or trust it. Promote a product or service only if it adds value to your audience. Here’s an example: I wanted to overhaul my social media profiles earlier this year. I was rocking out with a headshot of me 8 years ago when I had more hair and fewer wrinkles! My pic wasn’t disingenuous, but I felt like a Tindr guy who turns up in real life and...
