Google Docs killed my need for fancy funnels
I started a profitable paid newsletter this year. Here's what I did. (And how you can do the same) I came up with the idea for PromptWritingStudio earlier this year. It’s essentially a paid newsletter that offers creators and business owners practical AI prompts and frameworks. I deliver these lessons two to three times a week. I’ve created courses before, but usually inside of Teachable, where customers can watch video lessons at their own pace. I didn’t want to spend hours writing sales copy, landing pages, and recording videos before launching this time around. So, I treated it as a minimum viable product to gauge demand. I validated the idea with a simple Google Doc that I sent to my list. A few dozen email subscribers signed up for the beta at a discount. So, I went ahead and built PromptWritingStudio in Kit as a newsletter course. After receiving some early feedback from clients, I revised several core lessons and the initial writing templates for the prompt. I replaced free webinars with $97 premium workshops, earning a living by creating training instead of perfecting sales pitches. On these workshops, I showed ticket holders what’s working with the latest AI tools. I also covered multiple prompt writing frameworks that they can use for their business. No pitches needed. Last month, I created three different tiers for PromptWritingStudio. "I treated pricing tiers as a creative laboratory - testing what people valued most while building different service levels around their feedback. The basic tier is essentially the paid newsletter, where subscribers receive proven AI, prompts, templates, and frameworks twice a week. Unlike typical courses that languish unwatched, this drip-fed approach keeps subscribers engaged and implementing regularly. It costs $25 per month. Subscribers to PromptWritingStudio Pro ($47 per month) get the newsletter course and a ticket to my twice-monthly workshops. Usually, these tickets cost $97. They also get access to all prior trainings and seminars that I’ve run over the past few months. For example, I ran a LIVE 90-minute workshop on how to humanize AI content, and I also ran another popular workshop where I explained some of the most popular prompt writing frameworks for creators and business owners. I only send recordings to ticketholders and clients. I’ve also created PromptWritingStudio Elite ($97 per month). This tier is for business owners who need more hands-on support. I offer one-to-one support on consulting for business owners who want to start using AI for their business, and need custom AI tools for their business. I’ll likely cap the number of spots available in this tier. While building out PromptWritingStudio, I transitioned from using a simple Google Doc to a dedicated landing page using Caard. That’s an easy-to-use landing page builder, and the design was pleasing. But, I wasn’t happy with some of the customization options on the card. Meanwhile, I was also experimenting with various AI coding tools, such as Cursor and Windsurf. So I built a site dedicated entirely to the Prompt Writing Studio, explaining some core concepts, and that also shows some examples of what you can inspect inside the PromptWritingStudio. MVP Offer Creation In a Nutshell: Avoid spending hours recording videos and writing training people don’t want. Get 10 people into your program and create it with them. Don’t waste hours on time-consuming landing pages and conversion tools. Use a simple Google Doc. They’re easy to edit and share. In the copy, write how customers get from A to B after buying your thing. Link to a Stripe checkout. You can get fancy later. Take note of low course completion rates, too. Newsletter courses have a MUCH higher completion rate. You can add video and other training later. Sales webinars are a painful grind. Create paid training for your clients instead. If no one buys, don’t run the workshop. If they do, you just got paid to create. This week, I opened the doors on Pro Creators Only. It’s my private program for creators and business owners who need help using AI for their business. If you join, you’ll get access to PromptWritingStudio, and I’ll help you craft your offer.
