The algorithm-proof marketing strategy Denmark can't kill

Denmark’s state-run postal service, PostNord, is ending letter deliveries at the end of 2025.

Denmark offered its citizens a universal postal service for a whopping 400 years. Now, PostNord is claiming a 90% decline in letter volumes since 2000. The national postal service company says there’s little demand for this service today. So Hej hej! to the humble letter.

I was in Denmark at the end of January, and I vouch that the alarmingly happy Danes are as glued to their devices as the rest of us.

I'm not here to judge. I can’t remember the last time I posted a letter. So I can imagine an Ireland where An Post also eliminates the posting of letters. I prefer using social media to arrange beers and trips to Copenhagen with friends.

I also use social media daily for 30-60 minutes after dialing in my creative work for the day. It's a powerful tool for creators and business owners if used wisely (no, I don’t mean taking snaps of your dinner for Insta likes).

When I post on LinkedIn, Substack, or another network, I've one goal: grow my email list.

Ray Tomlinson, a computer programmer for MIT’s Arpanet, sent the first email in 1971 with the subject line “Test 123”.

Despite what social media companies want us to believe, email is still the easiest way to contact clients and customers 50 years later.

Platforms like Bebo, MySpace, and Google Plus come and go, but email is as popular and persistent as ever, even in Denmark.

With an email list, you don’t have to worry much about an algo. And you certainly don’t have to waste creative energy trying to go viral.

These days, I’m growing my email list using Substack, LinkedIn, YouTube, and a few juicy referral programs. I still get dozens of subscribers every week from SEO, too.

AI is helping me scale up my list growth, freeing me up to concentrate on offer creation. My email-first approach means I maintain direct access to my audience regardless of what Mark Zuckerberg or PostNord does.

I’m still surprised when I meet creators and business owners who don’t have a list, don’t use it, or prefer going viral over getting a thousand new subscribers. An email list is the cornerstone of a profitable online business.

Of course, email has its hurdles—deliverability issues, spam filters, and inbox fatigue. But unlike a truculent social media algo, you can easily overcome them.

So, in a few days, I’ll share my playbook to add a thousand high-quality subscribers to my list every month using AI.

Follow this playbook, and you can build an algo-resilient business that the Danes will write home about. Watch your inbox for more info.
