For a few years, I employed a team of writers, editors, assistants, and consultants. That was an expensive business model, so I changed things two years ago.
These days, it’s me and an assistant. I won’t lie—letting go of my team was hard, but I prefer running a lean solopreneur business.
If you want to do the same, AI can easily assume roles you’d usually hire for or outsource.
1. Content Editing
​Training Claude or ChatGPT on your tone of voice and it’ll provide frank and actionable feedback. AI won’t replace your creativity and insights, but with the right prompts, you can go from first draft to done in a fraction of the time. And the outputs won’t sound generic either.
2. Priority Management
​I trained AI on my business goals for the next few months. Now, when I fire up a specific ChatGPT project, it lists what I need to do each week and when I need to do it. It also points out what I should do more or less of. It’s like having a well-trained decision-maker in my pocket.
3. Research Synthesis & Briefings
​You can upload PDFs, articles, or transcripts into AI. It’ll create summaries with actionable takeaways - perfect for busy creators who need to keep up. For example, if you run a podcast, this approach can help you develop better questions for guests faster.
4. Content Repurposing
​I’ve spent more hours than I care to think about on the content hamster wheel. I’ve fun writing a daily newsletter, but not so much fun reworking it for my LinkedIn, Facebook page, X, Subtack, etc. So I use AI to help me rework content I’ve invested time and energy into creating. It can easily take an idea and turn it into an ideal format for your network of choice.
5. Business Strategy
​I followed a very specific process for training AI on my business model. Setting up this custom GPT took about 30 minutes. Then, I went for a long walk and explained what was working and what was not working in my business.
Then, it came up with not 1 but 101 counterintuitive approaches I can use to fix issues and double down on key projects. It’s like hiring my very own McKinsey consultant.
Just as a lever allows a single person to lift a load many times their strength, AI acts as a business force multiplier. One person with a well-trained AI LLM can accomplish what previously required a team.
